55%

The inimitable Jack S***T had a wonderfully inspiring post on his blog about how it really doesn't work to give 55%. Making it clear why he's at goal and I'm not.

But.

[Insert disclaimers here.]

For various reasons, adequate and not, I'm okay with that. I don't give 100% to my body every day. Right now, most of that energy is spoken for. What I can do is this--

Eat a few of my own cookies (alas, I know what I'm doing in the cookie department)-- slowly and with pleasure rather than wolfing them down guiltily.

Eat good meals and forgo snacks if I have succumbed to the above.

Exercise every other day if I'm not managing every day.

Keep the house stocked with good stuff (that dreaded planning thing).

Cover the sweet stuff up or put it away. The cookie boxes will be launched soon. Meanwhile I covered them all with towels. It helps!

It's 55%. But that's what I got right now.

How about you?

  1. I'm at 0% for now while working on the remodeling project. I'm barely drinking water because the extra trips to the bathroom takes too much time. Lame, I know.

I'll go and read Jack's post.

Does fitness-blogging count towards any percentages?

  2. I give 100% one day and about 40% the next... so maybe a 70% average. Oddly enough I am happy with that right now.

  3. I think 55% gets results, albeit slow. It is when you give less than 50% that it really gets dangerous. The plan you have laid out will help though. Eating slower is a big help to me, but it is so hard to do.

  4. I'm with Steve... probably because 20 pounds lost over six months is definitely a 55% attempt. :)

You sound like you have a good plan. I feel for us mothers and wives we have to do what we can with the time we have. Getting up and moving every other day is better than not moving at all.

I like your blanket idea. :)

  5. My version of clean eating works out to about 95% of the time, and I'm happy with that. For exercise, I give 100% while I'm doing it, but the amount of time I have to give to it varies from day to day. I do manage 30 minutes a day, 5 or 6 days a week consistently, and I'm happy with that. The key, I think, is in being honest with myself about what I'm doing. I can't tell myself I'm skipping a workout because "I don't have time" when I'm sitting on the sofa watching television. :)

  6. 55% is better than the -120% I did before! Whatever you do, you have to live with it!

  7. I do think the percentages vary day by day. You just can't give 100% every day. Some days you only give 20% but some days you're up to 120%. ;)

  8. I try and look at the overall trend, both in weight loss and in "sticking to it" As long as I was losing (or maintaining) properly, then the effort was okay. I do have to say though, that if I consistently gave 55% I wouldn't have been successful!

    Great post!
